Airfare will run you $1000 or so if you're careful. Accomodations will be VERY expensive. Hostels and the like will not have space, so you'll be looking at hotel rooms, which will probably run you $200 per night for an Olympic period. You'd have to book soon.

Tickets to events don't go on sale until later this year/early 2011. Expect to pay hundreds for most events, including preliminary rounds. Medal events will be several hundred apiece, up to several thousand for prime seats for prime events.

Greater London is 609 square miles big. You say you are going to the Olympics - are you a competitor? If so, you will probably be in the village.

Tickets do not go on sale until 2011.

http://www.london2012.com/visiting/tickets/index.php

There is no way of knowing at this present time what the state of the railway / tube network will be by 2012 as there is currently a new East London rail service being built. Improvements are also underway on most tube lines which means our tube network is disrupted almost every weekend.

It can take a while to travel across London and during the olympics, the main rail stations will be very busy indeed. London does, however have links to every area and so it would be up to you where you stay.

If you want peace and quiet, you're going to have to go quite far. I recommend Kent. Somewhere like Edenbridge.

If you take the train you can get the train from Edenbridge to Redhill, change for train to Clapham Junction and from there get to a main station such as Victoria or Waterloo then on to tube / DLR out to East London where the Olympics will be held. As you can see it will not be easy so I highly recommend finding a place in London you like.

i'll get you started.

hosting the olympics is good for a city's economy because they bring a lot of publicity to that city. it brings investment, jobs and nontangibles like pride

i'm not gonna answer this question TOO well becasue you have to figure it out for yourself

PLUS It looks like Rio won't be able to have the funds to build the quality sport facilities like Chicago, Tokyo, or Madrid would have done. Don't be surprise if you see a classic olympic sport in a crappy building that looks like the ymca live on tv. The Olympic committee will regret this one.

There really isn't any "official" way to rank, as far as I know, since no country is declared as a winner. Most countries like to rank via. Gold Medal Count while the US rank by Total Medal Count.

<I recently found out that Canada also ranks by Total Medal count.>

Anyway, that is why France shows the US in 3rd. Canada has the most medals <with 13>, then Germany <with 10>, and then the US <with9>.

Depends on where it will be held, how long you might be staying and how 'luxurious' you want your trip to be etc... hard to say but probably more than 3000 dollars if you need to fly
